Humans are not spiritual.

In today’s broadcast, Cring addresses the mythology of spirituality without humanity, while poking fun at trending religions and also the foolishness of meanness.

He reminds the listener of common threads which make up the fabric of our species.

You are not spiritual.

Haven ‘t you suspected it? All those “self-help” books, church searchings, meditation failures and boring seminars should have given you a clue.

But you persevered. Why? Because you don’t want to be an atheist.And agnostic is such a cliche.

For after all, “I’m not sure” is just not very reassuring.

Yet all the traditions, rituals, mysticism, doctrines, readings and symbolism just don’t seem to have much to do with living, loving, breathing, romance, and progress.

You are not spiritual–you are human. Two steps out of the jungle, but 20 lightyears from heaven. And by the way, how can there be a heaven without a hell, and how could a loving God allow…?

Well, you get the idea.

As a human, you need a human faith. How about the 3 M’s? Mourn, Meek, Merciful.

Mourn: you can actually feel for someone.

Meek: you can be honest about weaknesses and strength.

Merciful: you do not judge.

Now, these are not options. They just get you in the game. If you don’t feel, tell the truth and stop judging, you are dangerous. Although you are not spiritual, you’re not allowed to be dangerous.

Trying to be spiritual always makes you religious. Religious means you have to do stuff to prove you’re spiritual, which you aren’t.

So you grow frustrated with God and people. That’s pretty much everybody. (Well, there are animals. Of course, if you think your cat is nicer than your mother-in-law, you may have just taken the exit to Crazy Town.)

You are not spiritual. Don’t worry about it. Remember, God already had angels when He made people. He was obviously looking for something different.

So before you go on, take a big, deep breath and let it out slowly.

You aren’t a nutty person.

Just a person.

The good news is, because you are not spiritual you don’t have to try to be superior to other folks.

The better news is, being human kicks ass.

Our story is told from where we begin. For Jonathan Richard Cring, this was music. First he sang songs, played songs and then one day it occurred to him that he might like to write one. He actually wrote two that morning and rather enjoyed it. This opened the door to people recording his music, ending up in Nashville, Tennessee, with a contract. Having read a book, he had an itch to write one. The first one was small. It was called "The Gospel According to Common Sense." But fourteen books later, he has accumulated a considerable journal of his journey and heart. In the process, he had four sons and was godfather to three others. One of these young men wanted to be a filmmaker. Scripts were required, so Papa Cring wrote thirteen screenplays which ended up being produced into independent feature-length films which won awards at twenty-eight film festivals. While perusing websites for his movie career, Jonathan discovered blogs. He decided to write one and called it Jonathots Daily Blog. That was in 2008. Thousands and thousands of entries, which extended to additional blog categories--one called Jonathots, Jr.--pictures with euphemisms, and Words from Dic(tionary)--taking the Webster classic in its alphabetical order, and writing mostly comical essays on each word. Sitting around the table at Christmas time, his children encouraged him to begin a podcast. In 2018, he began one called Good News and Better News. It is a content-filled tongue-in-cheek look at American culture with the contention that life really doesn't suck. Bouncing off what has been done while discovering what is available has created the arc of the career for Jonathan Richard Cring.
